HP out of a twin plug 3.4L?

CORRECTION - it's a 3.2SS!!
I have a motor that was built up by a well known shop but i'm having trouble getting info on it so other than the obvious it's a guess for now. I keep getting the "how much HP?" questions, which I of course also have no clue about. I figure this engine has been built enough (in general) to have a range of what to expect (and i'm pretty sure, having said that, I will be wrong) to get some opinions. Here's what I think I know -

3.2L
Max Moritz 98mm pistons/cylinders
S Cams
40mm intakes
Twin plugged heads, polished and flow tested
Weber 46MM carbs
S cams
SSI's with B&B SS free-flow exhaust
Electromotive Crankfire ignition (no distrib)

This is it just out of the doner car-

What's a "mid-range" cam? Lotsa plug wires, so I'd assume 10.5:1 CR. What kind of ignition?

No idea, that's the description I got. As it supposedly is very streetable I would say it's somewhere between high-lift long duration and stock..

Electromotive twin plug crankfire ignition.

I'm not looking for some sort of clairvoyant dyno here, just what ranges a well built 3.4 would put out, i.e 230-275, 210-250, etc. etc. I'll get it dyno'd when installed, i'm just curious and it seems to be the one question everyone asks.

300ish give or take. My 3.4 is similar, with bigger exhaust primaries and 48mm ITB's and EFI, made about 300-310hp at the flywheel.....

Cheers

Thank you Jeff, so I will assume 250ish and most likely be in the ballpark.

You exhaust might be a little restrictive, but I would have been very disappointed with 250. My stock euro 3.2 with headers and ITBs puts out ~265 fwhp.
I would also guess around 290-310.

I was kind of curious why he stayed with SSI's that dump into a 2" B&B maxflo muffler (with 3" outlets!).. guess that was the only heat option at the time. I'll post back once I get it on the dyno, be fun to know exactly what the RWHP number is..

Is it a 3.2 SS or a 3.4? Do you know what crank is in it? What about the case, does it have a sump cover?

Cheers

It's a 3.2SS, 3.0L crank, yes it has a sump cover (assume it's a machined 3.0L case?).

3.0L case + Max Moritz (98mm) = ss 3.2

Unless using 3.2 crank etc..

Well, if Dan Jacobs says it's a 3.4... it's a 3.4. He mentioned it was big $$ to build.
Didn't yet ask him about crank and rods.

Edit: He corrected that today, it's a 3.2SS... he apologizes for the misinformation.

The 74.4 crank drops right into the 3.0 case. The only reason I asked is that the MM 98's were common for 3.0 motors which did make them 3.2SS.

But anything is possible, today I corrected some issues on a 3.5 that the owner had built on a 3.0 case.

Cheers

Don't mean to hijack thread but wondering, Jeff Alton, if your car is still for sale. I PM'd and emailed a couple times but never got a response.

If still avail., please send me a PM or email to tlarocque@cox.net

Thanks.

Thanks Jeff, I hope to have her mounted in her resting place in about two weeks and running so i'll see what happens after that. I race a 175HP stock 3.0L so I would think this motor should impress even though I did have a 300+ HP turbo a while ago...

So what HP can I expect out of a 3.2SS?

I will be building a similar engine this winter. I believe the MM 98mm P&Cs measure at 9.8:1. Though I have heard there are higher compression MMs. With a mod S cam and twin plug I would be conservative at guessing 265 horsepower.

You are correct in that the new motor will give you a a very noticeable shove
