2.2liter engine suggestions?
Hi all,
I bought a 2.2liter engine, it was disassembled and pretty much all of the engine hardware was present sans one cylinder and one rocker arm broken. Cylinders are Biral. It's originally T engine (block says 911/03), block is in very good condition (virgin block with no inserts and no pulled threads). Case halves are 2R and 3R. It doesn't have oil squirters. Planning to shuffle-pin and line-bore the block, install case-savers. Crank is 66mm, without counterweights, all dimensions (journal diameters and roundness) checked out ok. Rods are also 2.2. Pistons are 2.2S (84P8), cams are S, both are excellent, no lobe wear. Heads have 46/40mm valves and 32mm intake ports, so excessive porting is due when rebuilding them. Engine had carbs (which are also included). I'm planning twin-pluging the heads. Hopefully I'll get missing cylinder from fellow Pelican soon. I'm planning converting the engine to EFI (I do this as a business here in Estonia, install and tune standalones) using GSXR750 throttles (pre-2002, these are separable), carb manifolds and even maybe stock trumpets. Most likely tune the intake tract lenth to 3rd wave. I can do all of the block modifications (installing case savers, twin-plugging) as I have needed hardware. I don't want to change the parts (buy different crank, pistons etc) because current ones are in very good shape. Apart from rebuild here's some questions. 1. Do I have to install oil squirters? I can do it if needed. 2. What is the approximate redline with this engine combo so I can calculate the intake length? 3. Any pointers what more to do? And this engine is going to be just for fun, little track time perhaps too.

I personally would not spend any money on an early mag case. I would search for a 2.4 7R case if I was intending to build a motor that required shufflepining.
I would install squirters on any hi performance build. An easy 7500 rpm with stock rods modified to use ARP rod bolts. If you cannot have the rods modded, then get a set of 2.0 liter rods and the ARP's

I can get the rods modified for ARP bolts, no problem.
Searching for case is not that easy over here because There's only few early 911's (pre 1980) here and that means shipping it from US... Can you point out the most obvious differences between early and 7R cases? I just read that 7R are stronger but never found out why exactly?

Extra reinforcement ribbing for the most part. A stronger casting design.

Ok, clear now, thank you very much.
I plan to stick to original case though. Reasons? As stated above, it's a real PITA to obtain one here and I don't have to pay a dime for modifying the existing one... But can you tell me what exactly needs to be modified on 2.2 rods to accept ARP bolts?
