Vintaage 2.5 Liter Motor

I need to build an engine for Vintage Racing with HSR here on the East Coast. It can not displace more than 2.5 Liters. I'd like some advice on the combination to build to get to 2.5. What would be the right starting point for case, heads, etc., etc?

Knowing that this is a lower displacement motor. What go fast parts are recommended once the 2.5 Liter maximum is reached? I want a reliable and steady motor and not one that needs to be rebuilt every other race or not make it through a typical vintage weekend. Thanks in advance for advice/help.

Finally if any of you out there have some parts to assist in this project I am open to hearing from you. My E-Mail if you want to contact me is rittmeister@earthlink.net

Talk to the 901 shop guys in Stuart FL- they do a lot of this
Also ErVikingo here on the board

2,5 was achieved back in the day a couple ways- short stroke or long stroke
short stroke 89x66, 2464cc, with 38cc dome gets you 12,3 to 1
long stroke 86.8x70.4, 2500cc, 38cc dome gets you 12,6

these days with custom cranks, rods, pistons, cylinders and heads the sky and budget is the limit

how about 94x60, 2498cc
94.8 x 59, 2500cc, 134.7mm rod,,2.283 rod ratio
the list goes on-- once you go custom it's a blank sheet of paper

Vintage 2.5 Liter Motor

Mark,

Thanks for your post and inquiry. HSR does have a special run group which is supposed to be a mirror of the old IMSA GTU Class and you can run a 3.0 Liter with injection. As my car is not an original 1970-71 914-6 I do not believe that I am eligible for the class. That is why I an centering on a 2.5 motor. I also have to run smaller wheels. Luckily I am not trying to run SVRA, there are even stricter! HSR and SVRA are sister groups. Regards, Ken

2.5

Ken, we have built several 2.5,s for HSR from very wild to mild, give me a call at JB Racing or look at the web site JBRacing.com, Are you the same Ken Greenfield that used to run with Suds ?
