Distributor fit question
I am building a 2.7 to replace a tired 2 liter T engine. The 2.7 will have rejetted Webers and E cams. Will the distributor from the T engine work with the 2.7 distributor drive gear on the crank or should I swap it for the gear on a spare 2 liter E crank that I have stored? I don't want to pull the 2.0 T engine apart.
Reading the How to Rebuild and Modify book made me nervous when it said that three different distributor drive gears were used and they are hard to tell apart. Were they the same through the 2.7? Thanks, Mike |

The gears you are using will work.
1965 to 77 is clockwise 1978 to 83 is ccw 84 to 98 is same as early Bruce |

Wait: Are you using the the 2.7 case or the 2.0 case to build from?
If starting with an entire 2.7: the 2.4 and 2.7 dizzy have a larger diameter shaft than the 2.0/2.2 ones. When early 911 owners with marelli distributors go to replace them w/Bosch ones, they sometimes use a 2.4/2.7 one and have the shaft turned down a couple mm to fit the hole on their early cases. Obviously in this scenario, you'd be going the other way. I think it would be a lot easier to just use a 2.7 distributor! They are much easier to find in excellent operating condition. OR Are you build a 2.7 from your 2.0 case IE 2.7 crank with 84mm pistons? If so, I think your T dizzy would work (although wouldn't an E one have a better curve for those nice hotter E cams?).
