how many miles do you have on the engine since rebuild?
|
hi,no miles all new with je pistons, new valves, guids, seals, but has been sitting for about four years,
|
How did you do the break-in?
|
Break in procedure? Did you carefully measure your ring end gaps? How about the cylinders? did you measure the jugs after you received? The JE's expand a little differently than the Mahle matched sets - you have to have your measurements completely ON tolerance. Any chance you broke a ring on reinstall? Goetz JE rings or did you use the ones that came from EBS?

As long as your oil pressure is good , you must break the engine in. It takes a while for the rings to seat. Also , any car will smoke if let sittting that long!

Hi Frank
How many times have you started and stopped the engine since rebuild? How long have you let it run each time? Have you ran it for 20-30 min at 2000-3000 rpm for the break-in? How much oil did you put in? Cheers Dan |
1. When was the engine installed?
2. What was the time frame in which you filled with oil and started the engine? I only use a minimum amount of oil on the rings and cylinders when building a motor. Too much results in what you describe. One conflict with this is the time frame in which you built the motor and started the motor. 4 years would leave very little to nothing there. 3.Has the smoking gotten progressivly worse as you run the motor? Try to go into more detail with your story, how many quarts? what steps you took to start the motor?,etc. |
And lots of time there is old oil in the exhaust that has to burn out.

The general consensus is that you need to drive it to seat the rings. |
Yep. And drive it strong, WOT in 2nd and 3rd gears up to 5k rpms, then off the throttle to build backpressure. No kidding.
