911 Eng cost for rebuild or replacement
 

Looking for a 911 LWB "S". If I find a project (I prefer to do an int. and paint anyway)
what am I facing for a rebuild cost wise for:

1. Full rebuild on tired worn out eng.
2. Replacement eng in case of catastrophic failure.

Just inquiring for standard HP "S" class eng.

I did a 2.2 S rebuild that was truly worn out about 10 years back. Used the original cases, crank, rods, 5 heads, 1 cam tower. All else was replaced with new or rebuilt to new specs. Cost was over 20 large, including SSI's and a few other niceties - but almost completely factory parts.

Probably cost you a bit more today, as all the MFI parts & labor costs are up, and S P&Cyl are unobtainuim for the most part.

Good luck to you - don't go in to make a profit, do it because you want it for yourself.

A 2,2S is one of the most fun engines Porsche ever made. I would stand by the $20K number to do it RIGHT. Search here for "901/05" for my engine rebuild project- that's about 10K in parts and miscellaneous stuff, my labor is . . . free?

Wow. After many years of newer P car ownerships and several dozen cars, I'm surprised it its this much. I guess after all these years I've just never been faced with a teardown. I'll look for a car that doesn't have eng. issues. Interiors and paint are starting to look real inexpensive.. Thanks for your input.

nice paint will run $10k easily...this is to strip the car, fix any small metal issues, prime & paint and re assemble...
It is what it is... my suggestion if you are trying to find a 2.2S, find one all together & running and with minimal issues...in these hard economic times, I am sure they are out there, you just need to find one.
