Mahle 90MM Pistons and Cylinders

Can anyone help me with what the compression of these would be. They were purchased for a short stroke project I was going to do. They fit on a 66MM crank.
Thanks,

Bill

Those look to be the standard 8.5 CR 2.7 RS pistons.

The part number forged beneath the dome should read 90P27

Thanks Tom - confirms what I was told by the guy I bought them from. He said they were 2.7 RS P &C's for MFI cars with a 70.4MM Ceank and with a 66MM crank will make a 2.5 with a 9.8:1 CR. I'll be posting these for sale on the appropriare thread this weekend.

Sorry, he was wrong. Compression is LOWER using a 66mm crank. These will only give you a CR of 7.5:1. Unless this motor is a turbo, you'll need to return them or use a longer crank.

Below are pictures of the normal 8.5:1 RS piston on the right (w/carbon build up) and the nominal 10.4:1 Mahle racing 90 mm on left (new appearance). One can clearly see the difference in the dome crown in the middle picture.

I have a question regarding the availability and compatibility of the 90mm high compression pistons without the cylinders. Are they available without cylinders? Also, if available would those pistons be compatible with the low compression cylinders?

Thanks

Yes, the cylinders will work fine, regardless of compression. And you can get JEs without cylinders, but do not hink so with the Mahles.

Mahle only makes the pistons in batches thus they are not always available and, when they are, they are matched with cylinders, rings and pins in a set of 6.
