Engine Thermostat O-ring Replacement: no gasket?
all, replaced the o-ring to the engine thermostat. Lubed it up real good with oil. Does this simply go back together without any gasket at the top? doesnt seem like it would seal all that great with just the o-ring.

Just the oil ring and it only goes in one way.

When I put it back in, i made note of the openings down in the case where I believe the oil would pass and lined up the thermostat accordingly. i didnt try it, but it seems you could install the thermostat 180 degrees out and really cause some problems.

The holes are offset such that it only goes in one way. No gasket.

HI,
The life of an oil thermostat is not pleasant. Locked away down in the belly of your motor, it whiles away its life submerged in hot oil like a giant metal French fry. All of the heat and pressure can eventually wear out the oil thermostat's O-ring, which will cause big problems for the oil thermostat itself. For an OEM-grade replacement oil thermostat O-ring.. Thank you.. |
