Which is right,which is left

Hi all, this may seem like a stupid question at this stage in the rebuild , but i think my head has gone, the reason i ask this question is because i didn,t strip the engine and label the cams and cam parts, the garage that started the work did and Waynes book seems to change it,s mind on which side of the case is right and which left, if i,m looking at the engine from the crank pulley end cylinders 4 5 6 are the right ? and the cam with the lobes in a tight v shape is for 4 5 6 cylinders.
In the book on page 125 parts needed ,right hand case is labeled as number 1 and on page 134 the text says to install the through bolt nuts on the left hand side, but isn,t this the right hand side, is this me being stupid or not, just for good measure and to make things more interesting in a cold garage working on my first rebuild on page 149 picture 4-26 the cylinders 4 5 6 are in the wrong order.

Anyway back to the question, are cylinders 4 5 6 the right side.

thanks
Rik

Garage
4-5-6 is the right side

The Close V lobe cam shaft goes on the right side for cylinders 4-5-6

The picture (6-5) on page 157 shows the "Right camshaft" accurately.
In the USA, this right camshaft and cylinders 4-5-6 are on the passenger side of the car.

Oh and picture on page 149 is showing which cylinder to install in which order. the installation of the P&Cs do NOT go onto the cases in order (123456), they go on 123 654 if you follow Wayne's instructions.

So page 149 is not marking the P&C numbers, but is instead making an installation order.

Thanks Richard, i thought that was correct, but started to doubt myself and the labeling the garage had done after reading the different descriptions in the book.
many thanks

Rick - the mnemonic is that the left cam is more like an L, and the right cam more like a rabbit (R) ears. That's from Bruce Anderson's old but fine book. Maybe Wayne has that in there somewhere.
