SC cams mod on a 930 motor?
I am rebuilding my stock 1980 930 engine. I was going to just rebuld it back stock but I was wondering if I will regret not installing SC cams. I want to keep the stock CIS and fuel delivery system for now (due to budget).
Are the SC cams with stock CIS worth it from a noticable low end performance upgrade? (I do have a k27 with a 1 bar spring as well.) Can you tune the CIS system enough to accept the SC cam? (fuel/air delivery, etc..) Stay stock or upgrade to SC cams? Thanks |
Hi Millhaus,
I am going the same route now. I have been recommended to go for SC cams in my 930. This will be noticable low end performance and drop around 5500 rpm as I understand. There is alot of threads here explaining this. |
Try this link. I documented this process when I did it a year or so ago.
The change to SC cams is well worth doing. |
I have always thought the SC cams
were the best bang for the buck when it comes to stock 930 updates. |

All my 3.2L engine has that isn't stock is SC cams, 930 jugs and slugs, and a single T60-1/0.85 AR turbo.
It has dyno'd from 427-447 wheel hp @ 1 bar. |
Tippy,
Are you running an intercooler with that set up? Stock 930 or aftermarket? Sounds awesome |

SC cam vs 964
I have heard many talk about the SC cam upgrade as being the best bang for the buck on a 930 rebuild but others have mentioned the 964 cam.
Any opinions? What are the benefits of both? Thanks |
Running 964 cams, they pull much harder in the upper RPM range over the stock ones. Work well with cis or efi, a bit more aggressive than SC cams.
