idle problem

i have the problem where the car....1980 sc..starts fine then hunts like crazy for an idle..i searched for the location of the idle control valve..where is it located? i want to try to tap on it to see if it remedies

The air valve is between runners 5 and 6 with hose and electric connected. Other possibilities is air leaks into the oil lines, check for idle change when you open the oil cap. Spray around with carb cleaner and see if you seal momentarly an air leak.
