2.4L JE Piston orientation
Hi, starting assembly of my 73.5 CIS 2.4L T engine and need advice on my JE pistons orientation. The valve reliefs are cut offset from each other and different sizes. I think the larger cutout is the Intake side but want to be sure.
I am running a hotter cam as well and will conduct the clay assembly measurements as well as the timing and disasssmly again to assure proper valve clearance. ![]() |

The standard for 911 pistons is larger relief is for the intake valve. So larger relief is the upper one.

you will notice a very sharp edge around the valve relief edge
make sure you round this off , give it a radius , no sharp edges ! they will make hot spots . all sharp edges Piston deck height @ 1mm , work like crazy to get this clearance Ian
