Specs for 3.4L 996 Valve Job
I'm in the midst of rebuilding a 3.4L 996 engine.
I have handed off the head work to a local cylinder head expert to do a three angle valve job, but neither he nor I can find factory specs for for the valve seat angle and widths as well as the valve guide clearance? Anyone know what they are or where to find them out? thank you, Mike |

Porsche has not nor should you expect them to ever offer up this information. They just don't care if anyone has to rebuild or repair anything after the warranty period is over. The only way to get it is to find someone who has reverse engineered the specs. There are knowledgeable machinist who have figured these heads out but they won't just hand over the info. I'm hoping the VW-Porsche merger will see information flow more easily to the Common People in the future.

Fair enough.
I don't happen to have another set of 3.4 heads, but I do have some 996 3.6 heads with very low mileage that could serve as a baseline. Would the 3.6 heads have the same specifications at the 3.4? My gut tells me no as the angles for 3.4 and 3.6 should be different. thanks, Mike |

I'm not aware of a valve angle difference on these engines but I do have some heads in stock I can look at. I'll check it out.
