All this look nice but it's a waste of time for me....once you stick a /6 in a 914 you can't see anything anyways.

Different fans are conditioned as the project dictates. Some fans a powder coated, Mercedes silver. Aluminum fans are just bead blasted with Potter AD. The concurs fans are bead blasted, dipped in caustic soda (makes it dark) then treated with a drying penetrating oil. The gold is cold zinc plating. |

Please tell me about this fan? Were can I get one? |
3.4 Bigger is better:D

Once you finish those and put the air cleaners on you still don't see much in the 914. Driving down the road you don't see it at all and the chicks could care less how detailed your engine is. You can't even see the fan in a 914, that`s why you have the hole hacked into the firewall. Nice looking engine...it wont last long without the surround rubbers. |

Thanks for the information. I thought it was fibreglass.

The "hacked" hole is a removable cover designed for ease of service. I.E. fan belt replacement and ignition timing. The engine will remain clean as long as the owner is diligent about appropriate maintenance. Sort of like brushing your teeth. |
I'm just bugging you Henry, my first flavour is still aircooled VW. I hate bling (and trailer queens) so much that all my personal engines are total plain Jane looking.
If you look at my sig you'll see that I put my details on the inside. I'm almost 50 and I plan to drive the crap out of my cars, if they're buckets twenty years form now I probably won't give a rats butt....but I will have a smile on my face. BTW I'm going to have to "hack" a hole in my firewall as well ;) |

And even parked, still couldn't tell you. If you notice in all the photos above people have actually opened their engine covers to snap a photo. SmileWavy |

What also happen from behind the wheel is a feeling of satisfaction for a job well done. It's true that looking good does not mean running good but looking bad rarely represents a job well done. If you're building an engine, you do the best you can. Some peoples best is better than others. |
I have flaunted my engine on a few of these post before.... I will play again. Now it is actually just about ready run, as now I have my headers. Damn, these things can be expensive!!!! This was a 3.3 punched out to a 3.6, 8.0 to 1 C/R, full bay I/C, Pauter rods, etc.....

Hey TB930 - How long did it take to polish the halves! . . . And how did you go about doing it?
|
Quote:
I used Mothers AL polish ( in the red and white can), and about 1000 red cloth shop rags. Just used my hands, the polish, and the rags... thats all |
Outstanding job.
I have seen it were guys will clear coat the case halves after polishing since I would think the surface will eventually oxidize. |
Added my Nut Cover
