Oil Gallery Plug

I pulled the two big plugs from the ends of the main oil gallery, thinking I would tap them (after the engine was all done being worked on, and was clean) for pipe plugs. I had had this done on my 2.7 sand cast cases, and it seemed to work. Made it easy to clean the passage with a brush routinely. This is a race motor, so it is out frequently. Not a 200,000 mile engine.

However, on my '76 Carrera/Turbo case, the plug is too large for a 1/2" NPT pipe thread tap. Looks like it would take a 3/4", and those are not inexpensive.

So maybe it would be simpler just to replace the plugs I pulled out. But I can find no part number for them, nor any mention in the Pelican Parts catalog either.

Anyone know a source for these? Or do I have to find some aluminum rod stock and fabricate a pair of them on some friend's lathe?

Walt

Walt - is this what you're after ?

911 101 185 00 = Engine Oil Gallery Plug (per Pelican) = Stopper A 22 (from 964 PET - dwg item #61 qty = 2)

Why not try a DIN 908 hydraulic port plug

DIN 908

I'm assuming A 22 refers to 22mm ......maybe M24x1.5 thread ?

John

Thanks

When I get back from scrutting the TWS club race I'll look farther. I didn't think to look at the 964 catalog!

I don't think that DIN plug would work. These need to be flush (at least the one right behind the flywheel does) on the outside. And you don't want them to stick farther inside than they already do, as they are right where perpendicular oil passages join. I bet that big metric tap would set you bacik some, too.
