964 cams on a 3.2

doing a complete rebuild on my 1986 911 3.2, got the case assembled already, just noticed my cams have considerable wear, under the gun on this rebuild and i've heard before you can put on 964 cams in the 3.2's for more performance, that true? does it just drop in without having to do any modifications or adjustments? anybody know about this?

964 cams will drop right in IF you have the PS drive on the right side cam machined off.

Be sure to have your rocker arms refurbished otherwise the new cams may not last very long at all.

drop in in terms of operational, yes. But will it run optimally? No. Air fuel ratios will be all off. and there will be big flat spots in the rpm range But that will just be an excuse for a Steve Wong chip.

Ask me how I know....

You can send your cams to Webcam or Dougherty to have your cams refurbished or reprofiled. If your cams need a lot of work, have them reground as 964 profile and enjoy the enhanced midrange power. But as Richard said, you need software to match in otder to really get the benefit. Nice bump in performance when done right.
