wifey (actually soon to be) is understanding of my needs and wants. she has been clued to the sum amount but not filled in completely. so basically we are taking this a step at a time. i figure i might as well do it all the way down to the crank bearings. if im lucky i have another 25-30 years of life left in me.

at roughly 3000 miles a year mileage for say 30 years. 3000 X 30= 90,000 miles on it. probably a good time for her to sell it after i croak! LOL!

I haven't read all this, but if I get it right you have 10K on an overhaul. What I would do is stake the valve. Which one? Well, if you did a leak down you would have heard air from either the exhaust or the intake. That's the one I would stake.

Best bet is you have some trash on the valve seat. Usually carbon.

At 10K miles on an overhaul I would run the piss out of it. Some red line runs in third gear will do. You have a road that can handle that? When my parents were in Nepal, the country next door, it was all up and down and the road is was via donkey.
