Replacing piston squirters. What's the correct way?
I'm inbetween teardown and rebuild.
3 of the 6 piston squirters (splash valves) are clogged and stuck good, so I decided to replace them. Have them replaced actually by a 911 engine rebuilder that has done it before. Can someone explain me the proper way to do that? I'd like to make clear to that guy that I do have some knowledge about it and make sure he does not do a half assed job. (I don't hink he will since he give warranty and all but still...) I asked him to install and test them, but they need to be intalled right so that they do not come out after a few hundred miles.... Thanks guys ( I'll post pics of them later tonight)

I have yet to meet a stuck squirter that I couldn't unclog.
The best method is to soak with carb cleaner and then take safety wire on a variable speed drill and slip into the orfice and rotate carefully as you spray carb cleaner, then pressurize until it sprays. I have replaced them because of flying debris damage, ( broken piston) but not because of being clogged. I remove them with a dremel and very small tap, and carefully locktite them in place, before peening the case over to hold them. I would talk to George at Ollie's if you have to replace one. aws |

When I had my 3.0 apart this winter it too had several stuck squirters. I used the carb cleaner method and it worked for all except two. I thought I was going to have to replace them but ran across another thread where they used Sea Foam injector cleaner. I got some and put five drops in from the back side and within minutes they both opened and sprayed like new.
There is a spring on the back side so if you decide to put anything in there to free up the parts be very careful. See my thread "3.0 HP Rebuild" for a handy tool for blowing out the squirters with compressed air. Hope this helps. Lindy |

I decided to have them all replaced and tested, to be on the safe side. Although only two of six were stuck. I managed to unstuck one more.
for those of you that haven't seen them seperately from the case yet... Pics: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
