Distributor

I have been slowly completing a top end refresh on a 69 E with solex cams and 2.0 s pistons. I have read Waynes book cover to cover and am at the point where I put the distributor in. I ordered a cap from our host that would fit a 65-89to find it won't fit. I read on another site that this cap is not made anymore because it's an earlier Bosch distributor and that I would have to notch it to fit. I have a dremel and don't mind doing that but I wanted to see if that information was correct. Here's a picture of the old cap and new cap. The black area outlined with a sharpie is where I would cut the notch. Here's some pictures because everyone loves engine porn. Thanks.

Oh, one final question. I'm reusing the ideler arms with spacers. On the right side, there's a gap between the ideler arm and chain housing. The spacer fits in between the tensioner and ideler arm. What's to keep the ideler arm from moving? Is it the tension of the chain and cam sprocket. I documented my tear down pretty extensively with a camera and did not see a spacer to go between the arm and the chain housing cover. And, the sprocket is on correctly with the dish of the sprocket facing the cam. Many thanks.

The cap for that distributor is available new and requires no mods to install. It even comes in the original dark brown color. Be sure to call Pelican and get a body on the phone. If they cannot get one PM me.

The idler arm needs room to follow the chain, so the gap you see is fine.

It's not a Bosch cap, it's a very, very good reproduction. See my thread "before there was BHKZ" for more info.

True, It's made by Bremi. A very nice piece. part # should be 911 602 933 00 or Bremi # 8017
