Grank wont turn! Help
OK I ment Crank......Hello I am following Wayne's book and I just mated the two cases together on my 3.0 engine rebuild. After the cases came to gather the crank shaft turned freely when I pull on the timing chain. After I put the through bolts in and tighten them some the crank is totally seized?????? Help!!! I am presuming I'll have to open it up and check to see if one of the bearings became disoriented??

Ok i split hte case open and nothing out of the ordinary...Had to be sure nothing droped inside...perhaps one of the rods was binding??? I'll clean the locktight off and start over tomorrow supporting the rods with rubber bands.....

The rod at the bottom of the stroke was hanging up especially on a 3.0/3.2

Ok, got it....kinda freeked me out....its my first porsche engine rebuild. Aparently the rods were catching...held the rods with rubber bands and all is ok. I still split the case and resealed it just to make sure everything was ok. Put new lock tight and put er back together...

Having just had a crank bind after applying the Loctite, I am wondering if it wouldn't be good practice, just before applying sealant, to put the top half of the case on, bearings installed and oiled, and tighten us some of the case perimeter nuts, and maybe a few through bolts (without the O ring washers) just to see if it turns freely.
One thing a guy can do to screw this up is to put the #8 nose bearing in wrong, so the locating pin is not in its hole. And then start torquing to get the case halves to come together. That will put a bind on the crank. Mess up the valuable bearing, too. Glad it was just a cocked rod. I always grab those suckers to make sure they will move freely once they are flopping around.
