Which route do I take for my cams and rockers?

This is for a C3.2 engine.

1. One of my "SC" cams has two pitted (no galling) lobes, probably, oh, 0.010" deep IIRC.

2. I did the money shift and broke a couple of rockers and the rest need refurbishing.

My question is from a budget standpoint and if those who know could post typical cost for each scenario if you will below:

1. Do I source all refurbed rockers?
2. Do I buy 2 new or refurbed rockers and refurb the rest I have now?
3. Do I source 2 good SC cams?
4. Do I source only the bad cam? Not sure if people part with just one?
5. Do I weld up and regrind the cam I have now?

Also turn around times may play a factor in which route too although I'm far from needing these at this point. Jus' tryin' to get the ball rollin'

Whatchathink? Thanks in advance!

Cory,

All good questions, however one really needs to ascertain the cause of the cam pitting before deciding on a course of action.

You never said how many miles are on your engine so its difficult to offer anything constructive without more detailed info.

What oil have you been using?

Hello Steve,

I don't have records of the engine rebuild but I was told it was rebuilt 5 years ago before the money shift. Mileage is unknown due to odometer breaking at 105k.

I know it was rebuilt (to the extent, I do not know) but the main and rod bearings looked perfect (journals looks really smooth) and one timing chain was a different shade of silver plus the cases inside were very shiny. On top of that, it has 930 P&C's.

But, the rocker bushings are worn and the wrist pin bushings are worn too.

Anyways, it has ran Valvoline Racing T IIRC oil for many years I know for sure.

930 P/C's? Really,...the 97mm flat-top ones?

Is the engine turbocharged?

I would have the cams redone or replaced with new ones and I'd have all the rockers rebushed and reground. Look carefully at the rocker shafts and if you can feel any edge with your fingernail, replace them as well.

For sure get rid of those stock 9mm rods bolts if it has them and install ARP or aftermarket rods.
