what are the HP/flow limitations of a stock muffler?

I've been running a bursch on my 3.0 and just changed to a stainless stock 'banana' muffler. does anyone know the limits of a stock muffler HP wise, or flow ( engine size) ? the engine dynoed 250 hp with a big-mufflered bursch, but I get tired of the noise and have heard not-good things about bursch and their affect on the bottom end. any thoughts? thanks, Don.

No real experience here but every time I've done a search on dyno result on pelican or earlysreg, they consistently say the stock showed the best results and highest numbers. Maybe it's on of those "factory did it right the first time" things. A lot of variables there though...
