Can anyone tell me what kind of Porsche motor this is?
A guy has a custom VW Beetle for sale and it has this motor in it. He says it's a Porsche 356 motor. Anyone able to tell me if that's true. It is definitely a 4 cylinder motor but the fan is an 11 blade 911 fan. I am guessing that with the 911 fan, and the tall Weber intake manifolds, the motor has some performance mods - whatever it is. Here are some pics.

Right
And isn't it in a Bug? Somehow my netbook's picture resolution has gone o pot, but I'm thinking the breather/oil fill suggests a Type 1. |

Duh - if I had read the initial post more carefully I would have seen that the author said the motor was in a bug. Well, at least I didn't disgrace myself by saying it was in something else.
These 911 style fan housings were all the rage at one time. Don't recall if testing showed that they produced significantly better cooling than the stock (or improved stock) setups, though. Look cool, so to speak. |
