993 ss cams in 3.2 turbo

Hi:

I have a 3.2 carrera with Protomotive on the side turbo. My engine needs a rebuild due to smoking and high oil consumption. And as i am in there I was thinking about a cam change. I talked with Camgrinder about the 993 ss cams and he told me that its a step in the right direction with my combination for sure. But he told me that they need fine tuning, not only the chip. So for a stock 3.2 turbo at 0.7 to 0.8 bar intercooled, what is the fine tuning he suggest for the 993 ss cams? Playing with the flow meter to adjust mixture, timing, etc?

Any suggestion from any of the guys that run them in NA or Turbos, did you had to adjust anything other than the chip?

Thanks in advance for your attention,

Francisco Soto

He might be talking about advancing or retarding the cam. A movement of as little as 4 deg. can make a difference you can feel. Then mixtures and timing map would be done with a dyno and custom chip. I doubt that there is an off thre shelf chip which would be optimum for your build.

Maybe you can give steve wong of 911chips.com a call. He seems to get the majority of the business for souped up 911s requiring a chip. I'm sure he would have come across the combo you are contemplating. He's probably got a program for the custom chip too.

By the way, have you every dynoed your car with the protomotive?? Just wondering what kind of jump in hp it gives.

Hi AlfonsoR:

Sorry for the delay in response. To much work
No dyno yet, but after the rebuild I hope to get it to the dyno. It is the same kit that Juan Ruiz started with (I think 320 HP). I'll give Todd at Protomotive and Steve Wong a call and ask about the tunning.
Thanks,
Francisco
