996TT oil pump in 3.2L case (will it fit?)

Will the above fit without needing to machine the webs?

oil pump

If you are refering to the 996 GT3RS pump it will fit in all the 911 cases with a little machine work or hand work with a die grinder, each case is a bit different and its a test fit, but we do it all the time with great results.

The pump connects to the IS with a splined piece of tubing. This comes in long and short versions. The longs are for regular engines through the 3.2s, I believe. The shorts started with the 930 turbo and its longer pump, and are needed I believe for the 964 and all later pumps.

When the pump got longer, the tube had to get shorter!

So, if you have a longer pump/shorter tube you want to use on an earlier non-turbo case, you have to clearance one of the case webs.

But as Mike says, it isn't difficult. Machining no doubt produces nicer looking results, but I was able to use a sawzall to lop off a biggish chunk, and a die grinder to finish it up. With trial fitting you can avoid removing more than you need to.

I'm of two minds about using these big pumps. One part of me says the stock length pump will do the job with less loss of horsepower to the flywheel. The other part of me says a race motor running at high RPMs all the time needs more pump volume.

I'm running a 2.8 someone built with a 3.0 or 3.2 pump in it. Doesn't seem to have oiling problems.

But the 2.7 I built has a 3.3 turbo pump, and the 2.8 SS that I am building slowly has the 996 GT3 pump with the extra pickup. I have two 964 front oil coolers, a 4 gallon front sump, big lines, - - - - A big pump is a comfort if nothing else.
