removing and replacing oil spray bars from cam towers
I am rebuilding my 3.3 liter turbo engine and have removed the cam towers for cleaning. I would like to remove the oil spray bars and blow them out but they are captured inside by freeze plugs on either end of the cam tower.
QUESTION: what is the best way to remove these spray bars and reseal the cam tower? I was thinking of having to drill out one freeze plug to remove the spray bar. Then tapping the end of the hole for a small 1/8 inch pipe plug to reseal it after re installing the oil spray bar. Anyone else done this job an easier or better way? I dont think I am gonna find those freeze plugs anywhere, plus do I trust them to hold against oil pressure when I install them, a threaded pipe plug sounds alot more robust. Fred |

Here's a thread discussing threaded plugs in the cam towers.
