What is the engine number (green arrow below)?
It may be in the range: 6114001 on.

Here is the type number and build number (red arrow above).
What is the engine type number? It may be 911/07.

What is the engine ‘build number’? It should be just below the type number.

What are the case-half mating numbers?
It is on top of the crankcase, at a center case bolt between the middle cylinders (#2 & #5).
Usually 2-3 digit matching numbers.

What are the two (different?) casting dates?
They are on the front (pulley) end of the case.
They are a circle with a 2-digit year (70 or 71) and a series of dots around the perimeter of the circle.

What are the two casting numbers on the lower sides of the crankcase.
You can’t miss them.
911.101.101.2R 911.101.102.3R or something similar.

Notes: only 911 2.0 engines got the build #, it was discontinued in 1970 MY
The aluminum case engines from 1965 to 1968 had the casting date on the pulley end of the case with a ring of dots around the year to indicate the month. I believe that the magnesium cases had a week/year code somewhere on the side of the case, but often it is hard to find.
The casting numbers should start with 901 not 911 IIRC.

Great pictures.

Can you find the casting dates on the crankcase halves?

Can you slip the case back together loosely and get an image of the two matching (parting) numbers (645) together?
(Keep the crankcase halves together to prevent damage. Bolt them together to spec for shipment.)

What are the numbers (S/N?) on your Zenith carburetors?

Another of possible is the crankshaft numbers and connecting rod parting numbers.

I’ll put together a collage of your images to show all the numbers in one [img].

Dave,
It will be good if we eventually have a thread on ‘How To Identify’ – engines, transmissions, 911s.
We need more good data-points and images like this.

Best,
Grady

I will take more pictures and post them ASAP.

All 6 rods are marked 911 103 103 OR (s) , and 33 31033 R on the flipside. I weighed them ( with bearings , bolts and nuts ). 2 X 773g , 2 X 774g , and 2 X 775g.

Camshafts 901-105-133 OR and 901-105-134 OR.

Yeah, I know they are not on Pelican, but I can update the first post any time, instead of being restricted to a few months.

I spent some time making space in my garage to work , sit , think , etc.

This was after numerous threats from the homefront about using the living room , kitchen , and ( yes ) dishwasher.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1300847659.jpg

Following advice from members I baged and marked parts in ziplock bags , and then put them in marked boxes. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1300847822.jpg

I have been told that a rookie mistake in a setup like this is not including a girlie calender and dartboard.

For best results I recommend Gil Elvgren.

But seriously, I would get yourself a can of LPS-4 rust inhibitor- basically spray on cosmoline, and dowse those rods and cams before they sit. Even in the dry AZ desert (I grew up in Tempe) those newly exposed, run-in surfaces are prone to rusting.

Other than that I say, Looks Great, carry on!

Okay man, gotta ask...what ..err.. Where is the hand?!?!?!
Wait are you grabbing a lion by the cahones?
Now, that's confidence! Well it's a lot of other things too, but that's definitely confidence, there!

Ratpiper -

The photo was e-mailed to me by a friend in Africa , I am not the one advancing the dizzy on this beautiful specimen.

I was born , and lived in Africa for 40 years.

I received the micrometer yesterday , stored it overnight next to the crankshaft under controlled conditions , and calibrated it this morning. I took a zillion measurements this morning to make sure I get it correct. Grady said it takes practise.

D1 and D2 on all measures between 56.982 and 56.984. In the middle of the spectrum. Very good news indeed !
