oil sump plate...

Do any of you have an opinion on oil sump plates ??

I'm well into the rebuild on my '70E 2.2 rebuild. I've replaced the stock internal oil pump with a later Carrera style pump that has the incorporated filtration screen. Using this pump, you cant fit the stock sump plate and drain plug.

Rather than going with a plain flat plate, I was thinking of buying this piece from our host.

I like the thought of ease of draining with the plug and more so, the idea that theres a magnet there to 'catch' any metal pieces and possible let me know something might be going on.

...any better ideas or experiences ??? waste of effort ??? (it is a bit pricey..)

I have one it works good. There is not a magnet on the drain plug, that would be nice if you could find one for it. If engine is not together yet a little longer studs is a good idea but not necessary, if engine is together I'd just leave well enough alone.

Thanks !

Do you happen to know if the drain plug is the same size as STD magnetic drain plug? - or is the one that comes w/ the plate just a short, stumpy plug ?

It appears that the plate might be domed enough to make a STD mag plug work ??

Thanks for mentioning the stud length. I'll test fit before I loc-tight the studs...

The plug is a different size than the stock plug, I didn't check what size it is.

We have magnetic plugs for Aaron's (Rennwerks) sump cover. We use the upgraded sump screen 930 107 314 00 available from our host.
As for the studs, we use 6x16 allen bolts.

Hi Guys,

The Drain plug is 14mm x 1.5 x 10mm long. I am working on getting magnetic drain plugs when I reorder from my vendor.

If you decide to run a different drain plug you may have clearance issues. This will depend on what oil pump you are running. I would verify

I make the plates pretty thick to avoid distorsion when you tighten the perimeter studs/bolts.
I've been supplying nuts and springwashers with the plate. As a result I turn the studs out approx 1.5 turns, giving me the right amount of stud length.

As stated , Henry removes the studs and uses 6mm x 16mm allen socket head bolts. It gives it a nice look as well.

I had issues sourcing the magnetic ones this time around. An easy mod is to epoxy a magnet on the end of your drain plug, the next time you are changing oil.
