3.6 rebuild research--which rods/pistons can I use with a GT3 Crank?

Trying to confirm what I can use here. Anyone update to the GT3 crank and what did you use? Thanks

there are different ways to go, one way is to use stock Ti Gt3 rods and have some custom pistons made.

Others have custom Pauter's w/ custom pistons made

I'd suggest talking one on one to a knowledgeable builder. These sorts of things aren't off the shelf, bolt em up projects

Thanks Bill. I may need a new crank for my early 964 and have read the gt3 crank could possibly be an upgrade worth pursuing but didn't know if factory rods or pistons could be used. I'm in the initial research stage. This is for my street/track 911.

It's definitely the way to go for a cooking motor, I'd model it along the lines of the Singer motors

You really need to talk to someone that has built these motors, Henry Schmidt, Steve Weiner, Geoffrey Ring, Colin Beltin, Jerry Woods etc

There are two ways to go about using a GT3 crank.

You will need of the shelf 3.0 liter rods and pistons with an altered pin height.

or

custom rods (3.0 liter big end 127mm center/center) and stock type pistons

The snout will require 4mm machined off and the dowel pin enlarged

Pully from an earlier engine or a custom pulley

again there is more than one way to do this

The GT3 crank is design to use a replica of a 3.0 rod 127.8mm center to center, 22 mm wrist pin, big end width 21.7mm, and big end diameter of 56.00mm. If you really want to use those pistons and Pauter rods the c to c length should be 127mm with a wrist pin of 23mm.

You might also try rebushing a Pankls to 23 mm and dimensioning the engine (shim the barrels and chain boxes) to suit the longer rods. It's done all the time. Nothing new here.

In discussions w/ Geoffrey Ring I got the impression that he is using stock 130mm GT3 rods w/ custom pistons, but I could be wrong

Chris at Turbokraft used B&B rods with GT3 crank in this build

We are sourcing R+R Rods from Charles at LN now for our GT3 Crank build. Using 131mm rods with our JE pistons from our CMW stroke race engine. Gt3 Crank is much more cost effective than anything else we found.

We looked at Carrillo, Cunningham, Arrow, Pankl, and Pauter prior to leaning towards R+R. We have not pulled the trigger on the deal, so we would like to hear the pros and cons from the forum.
