It cost me $680. for the top end valve guides and multi angle valve job and cylinder hone, just machine work. I bought the parts, guides and exhaust valves rings, and assembled myself. Mine needed the valve guides at 68,000 miles. I had nikasil cylinders, alusil could be a problem if rings are needed.
To pay for the engine removal and reinstall would cost significantly more.

Not sure of total cost of teardown/assembly but you can't beat Craig Garrett's (cgarr) price on rebuilding the heads!

Just completed the 1,000 mile break-in on my 87 3.2 (100,000 miles), had a machine shop rebuild the heads which included; replace the guides, grind intake valves, replace exhaust valves, clean the ports and best of all remove and replace the exhaust studs. Cost was $1000 including the parts.

Alldata gives 16.1hrs/11.5hrs Standard/Warranty time to R&R the heads. This does not include the 6.6hrs/4.7hrs they give to remove the engine or the labor/expense of rebuilding the heads.
