Upgrade oil pump
Folks,
I am into the case of my 2.4, while I am in there I am having the oil bypass modification done. Should I look to upgrade my oil pump at the same time or am I good with the original? Thanks, W

Try not, Do or Do not

Magnesium case engines have issues with oil pressure at idle (especially when hot @ idle) so we always upgrade the pump to aluminum.
We also do a flow modification to the internals of the pump to improve flow. Every little bit helps.

The reason to do the oil bypass mod is so you can use the newer (1976 on) oil pump. The newer oil pump has a larger pressure section and a smaller scavenge section. This will give you more oil flow and higher pressure at idle. If you keep the old pump you don't need to do the bypass mod.

Thank you Andy, good explanation. I know much more about my car than I ever planned on knowing!

^^^ That's the best part of embarking on a rebuild yourself IMHO. The heart of my 911 has always been a complete mystery to me before.... it's slowly all coming together in my mind now as I reconstruct the motor.
