crankshaft mod.
I want to build a short stroke 2.8 but want to try and avoid using an original 6 bolt crank.
I think a 9 bolt SC crank can be modified to a 66mm stroke. If I am correct on this who would you recommend other than Armando @ CCR to do this type of crankshaft mod? Thanks for your input. Tom B. |

JMHO, but there is nobody I'd ever recommend for this besides Armando. He is, hands-down, the very best with 911 crankshafts.
Given the consequences of a poorly done job, this isn't the place to cut corners or save time. ![]() ![]()

+1 for Amrando.
I am very glad I sent my crank to him. The turnaround time was very reasonable as well as his pricing. He took the time to talk crankshafts with me and I was quite impressed with his knowledge. Armando has a great personality and is a fun guy to talk and do business with. |

Why would you want to send it to someone else ?

Doesn't Supertech sell a custom crank for that application with the later bolt pattern? Henry has shown the crank here, but I forget the exact specs...

Well he certainly gets high marks on this board and I value your opinions.
However, if you goggle CCR the list of dis-satisfied customers would appear to rival the list of satisfied ones. Words like liar, cheat, fraud scare the hell out of me. I know , you can't keep everybody happy all of the time but I certainly haven't heard those words to describe any of you that have responded to this post. Did this guy Armando hit a rough patch at some point in his life but has since straightened out? If I do this crankshaft thing from 3000 miles away not only do I want someone with skills to do the job but also someone who isn't gonna jerk me around. Thanks Tom B. |

Before I used Armando I googled CCR just like you did. What I did do though was call and ask him about it. I was straightforward and honest with him about my concearns and he was honest and straightforward with me.
Realizing that there are always two sides of a story and the fact that you can't please everyone I decided to give him a chance. I am glad I did. |

I think your idea has merrit but I don't know how you are going to take 4.4mm out of the stroke without a serious amount of welding or a seriously small rod journal.
If you really want to try, I use Dave @ Marine Crank. Marine Crankshaft 2155 South Grand Ave. Santa Ana, CA. 92705 Phone: 714-549-2388 He is the artist that created the Supertec SuperCrank. ![]() ![]()

Henry,
Holy Cow! What a beautiful piece. Do I dare ask what something like that costs. You hit the nail on the head as I was thinking about a 2" rod journal using a Clevitte 77 bearing. Do you have any opinions regarding CCR? You can PM me your thoughts on that if you like. Thanks Tom B. |

Checked your website didnt see this crank listed. You called it "the" supertec crank. Was it THE supertech crank because it was the only one or is it one that you have made and sell? I am only asking because i had a friend recently looking for one for his turbo and the GT 2 cranks are backordered until next century sometime.

Anyone else have opinions on Armando @ CCR, good or bad.
If you'd rather not reveal your opinions in public then please feel free to PM me. Your opinion and candor are both appreciated. The crankshaft is the foundation or "heart" of any motor build and I'm just looking for second opinions before making any decisions. Tom B. |

I (unknowingly) had Armando do the refresh on my crank. My machine shop (German Precision) sent it out to him for a journal repair, cross drill and re-hardening. It wasn't until after it came back that I saw who had done the work. After the fact I did some research and saw many of the same things you did from the past. I did have occasion to speak with Armando and found him to be very helpful. Even though the work was complete and I had already paid him a few weeks earlier, he took a bunch of time to discuss the work completed and other crank related matters.
I'm pretty happy with Armando and the crank so far.

I have had Armando do a 356C and a 912 crank for me. In both cases, he saved me from having to dig up the uber hard to find Glyco 3rd under main bearings. He removes the plugs, cleans the crank properly and has them sent out to be re-hardened (gas nitriding). He did Ol' Ivory's ('67 911S) crank too. One main journal radius needed some attention. He cross-drilled it and had it sent out to be re-hardened.
I also found him to be very friendly and happy to chat. Alan Klingen told me that if Armando doesn't answer the phone, the odds are good that he's off playing golf somewhere. I highly recommend him.

Second opinion needed........

Tom, I don't blame you from doing your home-work. But who would need a second opinion if Steve Weiner, Mike Bruns, Henry Schmidt, and others recommended this guy Armando as the best in the business. Do you know anyone better than this guy? Just my two-cents. Tony |
