Break-in oil

Hi there am a new guy living in France.
Just rebuilt my 2.4s motor, and have the smoking issues many have discussed, have not run the car on street yet, but completed 20 minutes primary run-in @ 2000RPM, followed by oil change.
Still get massive amounts of white smoke, perhaps less than before - wondering if this is condensation + old oil in my muffler..??
Havent run the car under load yet, seems like y'all say I should, before worrying too much...
will be doing a compression test to verify rings in the coming week, will add to the thread. Pistons and cylinders are JE and oil rings are the 3 part type..
Before going on the road I would like to use a decent run-in oil, no joy on Brad Penn in Europe!
Is there an alternative to Brad Penn Run-In Oil I can get here in France, .. Europe? Nearest Brad Penn Dist to me is in Norway, like half way across the States from the South of France??
Thanx for your help, glad to be able to learn from all this valuable info..

The rings have not seated in yet.
When I do an engine...I run it for 20 - 25 minutes at varying RPM's (2000 - 3000) and when it is completely warm...stop and drop the oil and filter.
Then...with new oil and filter....drive it out to an empty road (so I don't bother anyone) and do some gentle runs in 3rd or 4th gear from 2000 - 4000 RPM....letting it coast down between runs.
This helps in sealing the rings.
Try not to do any +5000 RPM driving until you get about 750 Km on the engine.
Hope you end up with a great running car.
Bob

In Europe should be quite simple to find Vavoline VR1, I buy it from these guys in Spain:
VALVOLINE VR1 RACING 20w50
but I'm sure you can easily find it in France as well.

Thanx Bob,

Is it worth me doing a compression test before I go out in the car?

I also have oily black sweaty liquid coming from the exhaust, with the white smoke, should I worry?

Break in oil is typically non detergent.
Oil out of the exhaust or black water?

James...if the muffler and heat exchangers were brand new...I would say you might have a clearance problem..(rings or pistons)..but if they are used pieces...it might just be the residue from the old build.
It takes some time to purge the old pipes of oil and condensation.
As to the compression test...probably not...let the rings seat in before you worry about the numbers...if they are off before the break in...it would just cause you needless concern.
Go find that gentle upgrade...and run the car gently through the gears...let us know how she runs afterward.

Thanx for all the useful info, testing will be next week now, too much going on, the black liquid I think is more sweaty and moist than oily, so less worried about that now..
