Distributor Testing

I have a Bosch Dizzy for a CD box equipped 911 (2.4) that I need to test and would like to measure the advance curve.

I have access to a Marquette Distributor Tester which I have used in the past for checking '001' and '002' distributors without any problem.

Reading the Shop Manual I found the comments below:

I must say that I don't know what is involved in rigging up a suitable system as the marquette doesn't have an 'auxillary coil' setting and as far as I know, neither does a Sun 504.

I would also like to know which box is needed.

Could a 6 pin box be used to test a contact breaker type dizzy normally used with a 3 pin box and a magntically triggered dizzy?

Any comments gratefully received.

Chris,

Most distributor machines trigger very nicely with any kind of point-type units. Magnetically-triggered ones require a pulse amplifier to trigger the machine, however you should be OK.

I have a Sun 504 that does those 2.4 distributors without any issues.

Now, testing the whole system: distributor, CD box & coil on the bench is a totally different situation.

Steve,

Thanks I only need to test dizzies at the moment but will look into testing the whole system later when I have learnt a bit more.
