Thanks for the update- I was afraid this had turned into one of those threads whose conclusion is never documented.

The owner had to decide how he was going to go forward, things turned expensive fast. He did the super tec studs, found a set of mid 90s P&Cs, got the checked out for quality, had the heads out to Ollies for reface for the new cylinders..time was eating away.
Today I got feeling better and got the rest of the rings done and the P&Cs installed.
The heads are already built up to be put on..but there is still lots of stuff to clean.

Bruce:

You have a PM.

Hello Bruce,

Are those cylinders Nikasil? If so, how did you prepare the bores?

Flat6pac 10-28-2011 09:59 AM

Ollies did the bore with a light glaze break, probably Scotch Brite. The cyl are nikisil.

Today was a good day, some cooler. The weather says there is snow in the north east possible.
Tomorrow will have the cams timed once I find the rest of the chain to get the gear and chain on the cam drive so I wont picture that until I have the gears mounted.

Bruce, could your focus a bit on the chain boxes and the chain ramps? This is onother place where the 3.6 differs from the 3.2. For instance, on the long ramps, there is a small set screw that helps position the ramp on the bolt that that holds it. How to adjust?
Thanks, Tom

P.S. anyone out there know of a supplement to Wayne's book that covers these differences? Wayne, how about it? :)

Well, I found the extra chain today, enough to wrap around the cam drive. I ve got the cams ready to measure but all my tools are for the 8mm studs on the cam carrier. I have to get some threaded rod to support the Z bar with nuts and washers.
For now all the chain drive is installed.

Im in these injection systems still trying to figure if there is a sequence. I know something will have to come off before I have it all on.

Ive been putting the injection and the fan unit on the engine today. I flowed the oil tubes in the cam carriers, Marvel Mystery Oil and air pressure so its time to close the rockers up. Billet aluminum..makes everything else look dull.
The chrome look of the fan is actually powder coat paint.

Well, I have it off the stand and on the table. You really need to put the spark plug wires across the top of the engine before you install the injection ..how I spent several hours yesterday..
Generally, C-2 sheet metal is in worse shape than SC sheetmetal. Why there is perforations on the side and front sheetmetal and there is insulation under the engine to keep everything dry..
I did section in the piece of metal to protect the flywheel and head temp sensor wires from the heat box..A la Carrera. The C2 is a narrower strip but the spot welds are both in the same place.

enjoy the pictures

Well, I missed the sequence, I didnt realize it until I was installing the insulator panels but the oil scavange line runs outside the panels. I had to remove the exhaust to get to the oil line and get it off. Installed the insulation, got it all back together. Clutch package is in place, should have the trans installed tomorrow.

Well, I got the muffler hung and the trans mounted. I found the connections for the vacuum lines, rerouted the cruise cable, installed the air flow sensor and aircleaner.
At the shop, I would build the long block and another person would install everything else and put it up in the car because I worked part time the last few years.
Well, tomorrow itll be off the table and on the jack and get the engine close to the door so I have plenty of light.
Thanks for reading my post and rambling.

Saturday, 11/19, the car was in the air, the engine was under the body, 9am started putting it up after checking for the last time on the vacuum lines. install 1 30 was the pump up the oil then install the top plugs, the air flow sensor, air cleaner and the blower on the left.
First picture is the initial start. Then all the trim is installed in the rest of the pictures. What you don't see is all the oil burning off the pressure washed exhaust.
Smoked up the neighborhood..

Well, I ve had the car sitting to see what is leaking. Its a revisit of the oil tank and thermostat. We had changed the two oil lines from the engine to the oil tank, they were cracked and weeping. After the engine is in and running, no leaks on the engine but still a puddle under the right rear sill.
Yesterday, I pulled the sill trim that covers the thermostat and oil lines and its all too wet to tell where the oil is coming from. There is a rubber line up between the tank and the thermostat so for starters I ll have to look there first.
