camshaft settings

i am putting together my first engine and i am trying to follow waynes book. on camshaft setting i have set z1 with dot on left camshaft up.
valve clearance set .1 mm
rotated crank 360
set up my dial indicator as outlined in book
( 72 911 T motor needs 2.6mm)
roated camshaft without pin in till dial indicated valve seat moved down 2.6 mm
this is when i put pin back in and torqued nut i have vid if somebody could review it
right side next

right side i set z1 and the camshaft dot up. ( i think this should have been done when i set the left side up)
i rotated 360 after setting valve clearance
put dial on and removed pin
turned camshaft almost 1/2 a revolution and noted lift coming around
z1 stayed and when i saw change in dial showing valve moved down 2.6 mm i put pin back in it feels like i did it wrong and worried about direction of rotation thanks
