Leaky engine
Brand new engine just run in and makes good power but it's leaking and makes a little noise. I followed the manual from Wayne and the sealing thread. I know one leak is from the scavange pump area but is it normal to have fresh oil leak on a new engine? Damn. It's a 77 930 3.0 turbo. Bums me out.

OK the the 3 hole gasket that connects the air pump housing to the cam tower is a very likely culprit. It is very easy to have these leak. Enough so that some builders recommend using some of that orange loctite 571 or is it 574? Same stuff you seal the cam towers to the heads with, on the gaskets. These same gaskets on the chain side of the cam tower on the drivers side are known to start leaking after as little as 13k miles if you are boosting a lot or at the track much, caused by heat from the turbo making the chain boxes move.

Thanks that is such good news on the pump, as this us the one causing so much smoke. I'll remove and seal that bugger.

last time i had mine apart both of those leaked. the one by the turbo oil pump and the one on the chain box. the one on the chain box i had over-torqued. I resealed then with new gaskets and some of that orange loctite and no leaks from there since. Then there is the whole other problem of the rocker shafts moving and leaking. Best cure for that are those locks from turbokraft. Everything mentioned above can be redone with the engine still in the car.
