Question SC or turbo ... which cost more to rebuild?

I am shopping for a 930 ... I will most likely buy one and have the engine rebuilt to make it put out more HP then stock. I am curious if anyone would like to share some real world experience with rebuilding a sc motor compared to rebuilding a turbo motor.

What would cost more... making an SC put down 380-400hp or a turbo put down 400hp? I will be rebuilding the motor and doing EVERYTHING inside. I want a bullet proof motor. I am prepared to spend the money (i know this can cost 25-30k with a turbo motor)... put i am curious if the Turbo is the cheapest route to go.

I would love to have low end torque of a NA SC motor and would like the fact that it is lighter... but if it costs 10k more to do it compared to a turbo... I will simply shop for a turbo car.

What does it cost to make a SC motor bullet proof at 380-400hp?
What does it cost to make a Turbo motor bullet proof at 380-400hp?

The basic long block, all prices are the same. Youre not going to get 380 horses out of 3.0 without bssically building it into a turbo or spending bunches on digital injection.

I have seen some posts of people building 3.8l NA motors. Is that capable of producing 380hp?

Speed costs money; how fast do you want to go?

The 964/993 3.6 motors were rated 250-270 horsepower; you're talking about a ~40% increase in output and a displacement increase of 5.5%.

Probably it is doable, but how much will it cost, how long will it last, and what will its manners be like?

I think you should find a turbo that runs well and drive it. 380 hp will scare the hell out of most people. You may end up revising your hp numbers and get back to an obtainable goal.

To answer your question, a turbo charged engine makes horsepower easier and cheaper than a NA engine. An SC engine is essentially a turbo without a turbo. Forged pistons, lower compression and a bigger bore for some low-end grunt are the only major differences.

A 3.8 engine set up for racing with the proper fuel is capable of 380-400 hp but you better have a very fat wallet...
