Plug wire lengths?

Are plug wires from the different early engines interchangeable?
Would wires from a 2.0 fit a 3.0 or would they likely be shorter?

Thanks

The lengths are actually different.
I have the Beru catalog
It lists the wire lengths
If you compare the 2,7 to the 3,2 the lengths are actually different
Not hugely but by a handful of MM
I think this has to do with the way the wires fit in the wire guides.

Do you have original 2,0 wires with Beru connectors?

No aftermarket to fit electromotive coils.
What are the lengths listed for the 3.0? Maybe I can just measure them. Does it also list lengths for lower plugs?
Thanks for the help!

I wouldn't think that stock wire lengths would work with Electromotive. It is set up differently, and lengths are going to depend on where you mount the EM coil pack.

I just did some measuring and had custom Magnacore's made up by Steve Weiner to my lengths. I was doing this for twin plugging, which I guess you are doing also? You need non-stock coil ends anyway, so you can't use stock wires even if you could get a pair of sets which have enough length.

Thanks yes, am twin plugging, and no they are not the stock wires.
Waltz do you have any pics of where you mounted your coils and an idea of the wire lengths?
Thanks.

I have the Beru Zundleitungssatze here

For the 964 the wire lengths are

22
40
52
53
66
77
103
107
107
118
119
131

That is using Beru wire standoffs, spark plug connectors, wire separators and the plastic thing that goes over the fan.

If you have something custom, of course you should buy a spool of bulk wire and actually measure on the car.

EDIT: Electromotive? You're a test pilot, you're on your own!

I'd rustle up a picture for you of where I mounted my two coil pack boards, but it won't help you most likely. My open Targa has, in addition to the two standard main roll hoop rear braces, a pair of crossed braces in an X which go down to the rear shock mounts. I welded up mounts on the lowest part of each of these mounts for my plates, but I have cut out all of the rear firewall/back seat, and have a vertical bulkhead rising to top of door/elbow height, and it then goes back to rejoin the top of the chassis just above where the rear lid hinges would be and so on.

You might start a separate discussion - ideas on where to mount two Electromotive coil pack boards. I've seen pictures (which you might be able to find using the search feature) of various trick places guys have mounted these. There is a fair amount of space above the front (of the car) center area of the motor, by the breather, which is more or less open. The frame arch from shock to shock has some space. And doesn't Clewitt sell something to mount these?

Some guys mount these inside the cockpit on the back firewall. Trick there is to get the high tension wires through the firewall without having a hole for fire to get through in a disaster, and so on. If someone made something where you could plug short wires onto it on one side of the firewall, and then plug the longer wires on on the engine side, that would be trick. A sort of bulkhead fitting for ignition wires.

Then there is always the question of how to get the wires for the lower plugs down below the engine surround sheet metal. If you just leave all that off, of course, no problems. But I like having something there to keep some of the heat down, and some of the dust and track junk down where it belongs also. I made my own engine tin with some Dzus fasteners to speed up the R&R process, and it accomplishes this.

With the packs mounted on the engine, you don't have to pull the plug wires to pull the engine. In my case, I have to pull the plug wires, which stay with the chassis, to get the motor out. Would be the case for about any mount not right on the motor.
'
No matter what, once you settle on a mount you can start measuring for the wires. I had different lengths for all of them, and have them cabled together so that in each grouping of three it is obvious which connector goes to which plug.
