Another worn Ks piston scenario

I've just broken down my 3.2 and discovered worn KS pistons. Alusil cylinders are still in spec, but the ring landings and ring end-gap spec isn't happening. Is it worth buying new pistons spec'd for these cylinders? JE's? Cost is the obvious factor here. Sure would appreciate hearing fro those who have been down this road that might offer some advice on what they did, and is it worth plating the cylinders, or does that push the cost envelope out the window? Thanks in advance.

There are a couple of options you can do. New JE pistons will not work unless you do some mods. The Alusil cylinders need pistons with a non aluminum finish. The factory used a Ferrous coating. You could try a skirt coating like you get from Swain tech. I had this coating on my pistons for 5 race seasons (about 70 hours) and the coating was still intact. You can have your cylinders honed and coated with Nickasil. Then you can use any piston you want. The cheapest is probably to buy a used set of pistons and cylinders.

We have 3.2 KS pistons in excellent condition that we will sell cheap. Your issue will be finding the correct rings. Replacing the pistons and rings in an Alusil cylinder is a hit or miss proposition. You roll the dice and takes your chances.
If you are interested I will look through them on Tuesday and let you know what we have.
Cheers

Thanks Henry. I've spent hours reading your posts on the subject, and certainly respect your expert opinion. I've already been in contact with someone who might have a good set of "experienced" Mahle Nikasil gear.
