help with the rod bearings

got a 911t that is trying to be brought back to life. started running good, then a ticking/knocking noise started the guy that is working on it says it could be the rod bearings.

how hard would this be to replace? and how would you have to go about it? thanks.

"ticking" is something light...like valves.
"clunking" (heavier sound) could be rod bearings.
Try the old stethoscope trick (or use a long screwdriver and put your ear on the handle end....hold the blade end in different spots around the engine when it is running).
You might be able to locate the sound source...front...back...sides etc.
Does the sound occur on acceleration or decel?
RPM dependent?
Perhaps removing the spark plugs and spinning it over on the starter might help too.
If in doubt...try having an experienced mechanic listen to it.
