Polishing Pistons?
Other than cosmetics, is there any advantage to polishing piston domes on a reuild where you re-use the old pistons? If there are advantages, what process do you use?

All that does is reduce carbon buildups a little bit. Its quite labor intensive with little or no payback, but if you have the time,...
![]() I use various polishing compounds and plenty of cotton buffs for the wheel. Eastwood has all that stuff.

It does make it easier to remove the carbon the next time its apart.

Thanks for the responses. Leafing through articles and photos I noticed that some of the after market pistons appear to be highly polished, and I wondered if that bought you anything other than nice looks during installation. I actually do have all the Eastwood stuff to polish metal and am doing that to metal items coming off my engine during the teardown. Haven't gotten to the P&C's yet, so I was just wondering if I should clean the pistons up with a final polish.

I am going to guess they run a fudge cooler
1- no hot spot (s) ((insurence) 2- heat is reflected back rather then absorbed You Opinion may differ then mine...but I know if I had to find 6 mirrors...They are stored in my engine cylinders LOL
