Is this case repairable?

Hi

I have a 2.7 case that has the side of the main bearing retainer broke off (see picture). Does anyone know if there is a repair for this?
Also I was wondering how to find out if the case I have is the original one from the car. I know it is the right year of case for the car but that is as far as I can figure out.

Yes is a good answer.
Now maybe a little more detail on the how? I have some thoughts but assume there might be a more know standard repair out there.

Thanks

I see you have the mid-7R case that has bearing tang recess on both sides of the case. A simple solution would be to buy the set of bearings that locate on the opposite side of the case.

These do exist but I do not know a part number for them.

Most any "Good"repair shop will have the know how or have a source for a outside vendor to weld that.
Both Mag cases and Al. can be welded and then machined.
It always comes to the point.......how much is it worth to the amount you want to spend..
Clewitt had my Mag case welded somewhere.......He is not the only answer..just one

This case is in need of most of the updates and a repair. That is why it would be good to know if it is the original engine out of the car. If it is not the original engine from the car it might be easyer to find a case that is good and already to be assembled.

If the only problem with the case is that the tang retaining groove has lost the small piece you could very easily put a new groove in the opposite web.
You still want to have the line bore checked by a professional (Walt @ Competition Engineering or Bill @ Engine Machine Service) but the tang groove is an easy repair.

If you do find one all together.....its a shot in the dark with out proof IF all the up dates are in fact if there or not.
Paper work trail I do guess.........

Get the Certificate of Authenticity from Porsche. It's over a hundred bucks but if you are concerned about numbers matching, you need it. (they are not always accurate either, particulalry when it comes to options, but the engine and trans numbers should be ok)

My Certificate of Authenticity came back with a number way off from my engine when requested (in 2003?) I contacted Porsche and let them know I thought it was in error (but gave them the number as ######XX to make sure they didn't just agree with me. They came up with the right number. Thank God!
