Educate me; 2.4T with 2.2E pistons
Since I am in the middle of the body/suspension restoration of my 72 coupe I thought I would ask some questions that might lead me into additional welding (external oil cooler brackets) that I can get done now instead of later....
I have a stock 2.4T that has been rebuilt in the past and was a strong runner at the time. The engine has been in storage on an engine stand for the past 10 years. I would like to avoid splitting the case so have been reading about other less intense modifications such as cams, P&C's, etc. One of the options is to utilize 2.2E pistons in order to increase compression and performance. What does it all entail to complete this modification? Is it just a matter of "slapping" in pistons into the original 2.4 cylinders....or ? My assumption is that I will need to use a set of 2.2E P&C's, 2.2E camshafts and then a change to the original 2.4T MFI and finally this will require an external oil cooler? Just not sure what path I need to follow, so any help/advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Sam

With the 2.2E pistons you might need to trim the corners of the skirt to clear the counterbalance of the crank. You will get into the mid to high 9s CR.
The trimming is done with the S pistons to clear the crank so I imagine it will be the same for the E. Bruce |
