Check out this link to a youtube video. It shows a technique used in assembling the case halves on aircraft engines to prevent oil leaks along the case seam....I thought it was pretty awesome and maybe saves alot of problems alot of us 911 guys have keeping the oil inside the engine where it belongs. Its about a minute or so into the video. Fred

hmm very interesting might try that next time around. mine always leaks around the chain boxes. after about 15k miles probably from the heat from the turbo.

I've heard of using the thread of sild before in some other threads. Seems like a good idea.

I tried one with a groove milled into the mating suface and installed a Viton continuous O-ring in the groove.
Seemed to work nicely...and for a race engine that got torn down every weekend it solved a lot of problems (no scraping of old sealant). Bob
