For your ears only

IMG 2417 - YouTube

If you have the time to listen that would be great, to me there are two concerns, the thud/missing and the knocking like sound especially below a grand...This is from a 80SC just did the top end 1200 miles back...she seems out of tune and there is a tinny sound.

Your thoughts are welcome, not too many 911 aircooled experts on Kauai to help me out.

Mine sounds similar. I always thought it was odd, but my oil pressure shows as 50+ @ idle and goes to 90 or so when I rev it. My valve train noise is actually louder, but I know I need to adjust the valves.

Sorry I can't be of more help...

I didn't hear anything I'd consider dangerous or even awful?

Hey JS,

I have a similar noise since ~3 years now. It started after a winter storage. Inspection of valve train etc. revealed nothing as well as new hydraulic chain tensioners. Engine revs up to the limiter, excellent oil pressure and acceptable temperature, nearly no oil consumption between the oil changes, and that now for more than 10,000 km (6,200 mls). Friends (and mechanics) warned me, that opening the engine may lead to nothing - so I accepted it meanwhile, but the sound is still irritating sometimes.

I hear ya Silver, something off....I'm am a believer in the bullet prof bottom end cult but the noise is new just sounds off, she still revs but I fear somethings a miss, not a factory intended sound...just want her to be purring. No one heard to missing thuds when held at a steady RPM? I'm a open to any input the experts yield.

Regards-

JS
