3.2SS v 3.2 Carrera
Doing some long range planning for my 83SC and was wondering if there was a difference in base level HP and Torque between a 3.2 Short Stroke (SC with 98mm P&C) and a standard 3.2 Carrera engine.
Basically I want to know if I can expect the same performance improvements from a 3.2SS if I apply the improvements some guys have listed for their Carrera's (SSI's, upgraded CAMS and Steve Wong Chip) I have a Carrera intake system to go on the 3.2SS Tim

If you do a 3.2SS with lightweight, slightly higher compression pistons, like JE for instance, and improved camshafts, you will get a better performer than the 3.2 Carrera.
The 3.0-based 3.2 has a better rod-to-stroke ratio which allows it to spin more easily. Add to that the lighter JE pistons and you have a greater spin advantage. Plus the 3.0 rods are inherently better. In stock form, the Motronic 3.2 leaves quite a bit to be desired in throttle response. CIS is a bit better in this regard. While most aren't a big fan of the CIS, I like it's manual tune-ability. The Motronic is tune-able, but you need to send out your chip or have a E-PROM emulator to modify the chip yourself. That said, with a chip tune and exhaust change, the throttle response of the 3.2 Motronic can be noticeably improved. Add to it a lightweight clutch, disc & flywheel (especially needed on a G50) and it improves even more I can identify with your signature (WRX swap for 911). Back in 2000 I swapped my '98 Mustang Cobra for my '87 Carrera and never looked back. 911 purchase was the best car purchase I ever made!
