1979 camshaft removal tools-NEED TO BORROW A SET

I am in need of the cam nut removal tools for the old style 1979 911/930 camshaft style. Its the big 46mm crows foot and the camshaft holding socket that I wanted to borrow or rent from one of the lucky few that own these tools.

I will need it for about a month max. I got the engine out of the car yesterday but need to hang onto the tools after I disassemble the top end while I wait for the replacement parts to come in once I find out whats damaged and then need time with the reassembly. -----

Anyone could help me out or lead me to someone that has these 2 tools and would not mind loaning them to me for a short time?

Please PM me if you can help me. I really appreciate it.

Fred

it's a 46mm nut. you can use a 1/2" impact and 46mm socket to get them loose. tensioner out on the left side and hold the idler arm tight with channel locks between arm and the top of the chain housing as you rattle it off.

I corrected the nut size in my post.....thanks.

I was hesitant to use an impact on the nut as it puts a shock load into the chain that you are using to prevent the cam turning. Is this a valid concern do you think or not to worry?

Thanks,
Fred

Fred,

I have a set of the tools you need and am willing to loan them to you.......IF you promise that I will have them back in no more than 60 days. I am (dangerously)
close to doing an engine build myself and will need them then. Drop me a PM with
your mailing address and I will get them in the mail in the next day or so.

Impact tools are amazing in what they can do. You won't hurt a thing using one on the big nut, and it takes all the work out of it. Well worth the cost of purchasing a 46mm socket. Still need the crow's foot for going the other way.
