Leak Down test on project 73.5 2.4T
Hello, I had installed the rocker arms on my 2.4T stock engine build and while I'm waiting for a few parts to arrive today I performed a leak down test.
I am at the point in the build where the sprockets have been shim-adjusted and the timing chains are still off. The cams are both facing straight Up and the crank at TDC. The engine was rebuilt including complete head work with new valve guides and valves. The pistons were media blasted and new piston rings installed. The engine obviously has not run since it is only half-together so I am wondering if this makes a difference in being able to perform a leak-down test effectively. The only oil in the cylinders was a little from installing the piston rings. On my leak test today all the cylinders I got a moderate amount of leak from the piston rings, but a few cylinders were much worse than the others. Should the build continue or do I have a leakage problem with my rings? They are the Deves set from the host's inventory. |

You will get huge leakdown numbers, like 20%, during assembly. At least you know you didn't forget to put the rings in one cylinder! Carry on.
