Distributor shaft end play. anyone know the spec?
I am nearly done with my 3.0 turbo build. My distributor, is pretty much the last thing on my list, I have left no stones unturned. I have it dissassembled, and a new shim kit on the bench ready to go. I have measured .085 of end play, and although I cannot find a spec, I am sure that this is just too much.
I DID use the search feature, ,and found mention of .005, and in another thread , a max of .010. Anyone know the definative answer??

I would say that 0.004" would be ideal but 0.005" would be OK.
If you can feel the axial float by hand it is a bit on the excessive side. 0.010" may just about be OK but I would call this the limit 0.085 is too much and almost certainly an issue with a dizzy with contact breakers and a centrifugal advance. ![]() Cast Iron Dizzy with end float adjustment If you dismantle, it is worth checking out the Vac Advance Can as these are commonly siezed up and inoperable. |
